Ammonoids are an extinct group of marine mollusc animals in the subclass Ammonoidea of the class Cephalopoda. These molluscs are more closely related to living coleoids (i.e., octopuses, squid, and cuttlefish) than they are to shelled nautiloids such as the living Nautilus species.[citation needed] The earliest ammonites appear during the Devonian, and the last species died out during the Cretaceous–Paleogene extinction event.Fossils are a wonderful tool to assist you in moving from the old to the new and to be receptive to the fresh, innovative forces that are available to you. Ammoniter (Ammonoidea) är en utdöd underklass av bläckfiskar. De levde från ungefär 400 till 65 miljoner år sedan ända från tidiga devon fram till översta krita. De levde i grunda hav och många var bra på att simma. Ammoniter har genom åren använts flitigt som biostratigrafiska markörer, främst under jura, eftersom nya arter utvecklades snabbt och levde under en relativt kort period i jordens historia.
